To abuse a cliche: After I got a full night’s sleep, it seemed like a bad dream. But another YouTube clip gone up overnight from my friend and past collaborator Robin Bell corroborates…
Today I ended up witnessing a DC police detective pull a gun on a bunch of hipsters having a snowball fight (they did target his vehicle, and then him, before knowing who he was).
This has kind of…
The gun is brandished for just a few moments, but it seemed to get waved in all directions.
Only later, after more — uniformed — Metropolitan Police Department officers arrive and the situation de-escalates (with plenty of heated words and a few snowballs still flying, but guns put away), do we find out that this man is a Detective Baylor, also with the MPD.

This is the driver of a maroon Hummer. Some of the snowball fight participants, mostly among those on the east side of 14th Street near U, targeted this vehicle when it stopped at the intersection.
The driver got out and, after waving a walky-talky (hinting that maybe he’s an official of some sort), he begins to wave a gun. No one near me seemed to know, as we’d later find out, that he was with the police. He did not identify himself until later, when more police had arrived, his weapon was re-holstered, and arguments ensued.
